I am proud to announce that I have partnered with reflect to provide therapy services! Reflect is a minority-owned and operated organization that helps connect clients with therapists! Monday Me-Time

I wanted this post to be Motivational Mondays but it’s 2020, let’s not get carried away. How are you doing? What’s been going on in your life? Yes, I’m talking to you! What is it about Mondays? Is it simply just the start of the “work week” or something more? Is it that Mondays signal the beginning of thinking about everyone else’s problems except yours?

If you’re were having the worst week ever then you might welcome the distraction but what if you are just tired? What if you want to catch up on some sleep and get some much-needed rest? If that is the case, then Mondays bring a sense of dread but it doesn’t have to stay that way!

I’m introducing Monday Me-Time! This is where you will decide on what you can do for yourself on Mondays! How does it work? Well, I’m glad you asked!

Reclaim your Mondays!

Start your Monday off right by picking something that you enjoy doing or that makes you feel relaxed. It could be a nice warm bubble bath or reading a good book? Maybe you like arts and crafts or playing video games? Or is it working out or taking a nap?

Once you’ve picked what you enjoy doing, how much time can you give yourself to enjoy it? Is 30 minutes enough for you to watch another episode of your favorite TV show? Or maybe a 45 min yoga session online? Once you’ve worked out how long your “me-time” is, at what time will you engage in your “me-time?” For example, is your Monday “me-time” a run at 6:00 AM in the morning (God Bless the hearts of the early risers!) or your Zoom yoga class at 5:00 PM? Once you’ve scheduled your Monday Me-Time, the last step is to follow through and do it!

Let’s Recap: Monday Me-Time 3 keys to success!

  1. Decide on something that you enjoy doing or that makes you feel relaxed.
  2. Figure out how much time you can REALISTICALLY give yourself to enjoy it and at what time. For example, “Monday at 3:00 PM” All-day Monday is not realistic!
  3. Follow-through and do it!

What is a safety plan?

Maybe you’ve heard the phrase “safety plan” before and you’re not quite sure what it means. Well, a safety plan is a resource that is created to assist when a person is in crisis. A crisis may look different for each individual but the main goal of the safety plan is to have a set of guidelines to help avoid an intense suicidal crisis.

A suicidal crisis is “a suicide attempt or an incident in which an emotionally distraught person seriously considers or plans to imminently attempt to take his or her own life” (Suicide Prevention Resource Center, n.d.).

The safety plan will include things like emergency contact numbers of professionals or agencies, contact numbers of support systems, coping strategies, and protective factors. To view an example of a safety plan click the download link below.

The first thing to do to implement a safety plan is to create a safety plan. Once you’ve created the safety plan you should keep readily available and give a copy to a close friend, family member, and your therapist to have in case of a crisis.

Developing a safety plan is an effective way to provide a set of guidelines for yourself and others to help whenever a suicidal crisis may arise. If you are interested in learning more about safety plans please feel free to view the resources provided below and don’t hesitate to contact a mental health professional for additional support.

Are you curious about mental health?

So am I! It was this curiousity that got me interested in pursuing the mental health profession. It took a long time to accept the idea of working as a therapist. However when I began serving clients at my practicum site, it was clear that I had never experienced the joy that comes with doing a job that you love. And just to be clear, my journey is still not over, I am only an MFT Trainee! Upon graduation, I twill then have to register as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with the Board of Behavioral Services in order to complete the 3000 hours required for licensure in the state of California.

But enough about me, you’re here because you wanted to talk about mental health right? Maybe you have some questions like:

  • What is mental health and why does it matter?
  • Where can I get mental health services?
  • Is mental health for “crazy” people?
  • How do I know if I need mental health?

That’s why I created this website! I wanted a place where anyone could click on the website and view free resources, discuss mental health, increase awareness, and learn how a therapist is mental health ally.

If this is something that you are also intersted in, welcome! Let’s begin our journey to learning more about mental health!
